So, S is now the official door-painter in the basement, giving each door two thorough coats before P re-hangs them upstairs and brings down a few more. This assembly line is working pretty well. S's teenage biological clock gets going around mid-day and allows him to work all afternoon with just blaring rock-n-roll and freezies for sustenance.

Rock & Roll and Freezies
A dirty, messy job that we've effectively avoided for far too long is the painting of the new upstairs doors. The door knobs can't be put on, even though they're ready in boxes on top of the bookshelves in the office, until the doors have been painted. Well, they could be but then you'd have to take the knobs off to paint them, adding yet one more step in the over-procrastinated process. Right now the doors are hung, but are knob-free; instead we're using an innovative approach of old socks tied through the knob-hole which serves the double purpose of enabling the door to remain closed on a windy night and to block the view from curious passers-by.

Fun with Chinese Egg Noodles
The kids love stir fry meals. Well, that's not completely true. Actually, it's not even a little bit true. For some inexplicable reason, the idea of crispy vegetables and rice turns them into appetite-challenged mutes. Until I discovered Chinese egg noodles, which make the entire stir fry experience one of endless dramatic possibilities.

Putting Up Walls
Now that the bathroom has been torn apart, the re-building has begun. P framed in a wall between the bathroom and the mudroom, about 18 inches away from where it used to be, so that we can 2 big closets in the mudroom. The plan is that one will be for coats and footwear and the other for dog stuff, cleaning stuff, a broom, the vacuum hose, recycling ... that sounds like a lot of stuff. Maybe we need 3 closets. I'll consult with the contractor ...

Main Floor Bathroom ... Here We Go!
Now that the bathroom is gutted, P took the toilet out (anyone need another john?) and the vanity (it's on the burn pile, Bop!) and has hung plastic up to keep the plaster mess in check as he tears out the remaining walls. The wind makes the plastic crackle and Scooby tries to catch it. Smart dog.
Main Floor Bathroom ... YIKES!
