Dehumidification dilemma

Our 2-year old dehumidifier kicked the bucket. Did it get injured in the move? Was it simply a case of planned obsolescence on the part of Kenmore who wants us to spend another $200? After a few weeks of showers in the basement and no dehumidifier, it started to smell like a, well, basement.  All our furniture is stored down there, and I was starting to get concerned.  Well, I'm extremely happy to say that P has fixed it!  He's dumped out tons of buckets full already and the smell is slowly improving ... whew.

Well water

Our well has tons and tons of water, which is wonderful; the drag is that it's so chock a block full of minerals that within a day of cleaning the sink and toilet, they have hideous stains in them. My dad has the solution! It's not easy to come by, but it's by far THE best cleaner around! And it's septic friendly!

Horse shoes

This is harder than it looks!

Should we get a dog?

Of course you need a dog on a farm, right? J fell in love with Boyer (and vice versa), and now he's doing his best to persuade us to get a Golden Retriever!

Gak!

Yikes!

Hydro One vs NAV Canada

Do the backyard poles belong to us? Or to NAV Canada? They're rotten through and not to code and must come down, but at whose expense? Is the NAV Canada beacon going to be decommissioned and will the land be sold back to us? Will Hydro One help us out as we bury cable to our house from the road? Stay tuned as this exciting issue unfolds ...

Front walkway

The front walk will look great when it's finished. Digging through that clay soil ain't easy.

Boxing day

Being a neglected 30+ year old house, the heating system needed upgrading. We decided to go with a combination wood/electric high efficiency unit, but that meant new duct work throughout the whole house.  Boxing it all in is proving to be an arduous job; but P has framed it in and put up drywall!  I even helped put in a few drywall screws! Woo hoo!!

Garage

When we got possession of the house the garage was completely full. I mean full from wall to wall and floor to ceiling, and it's a two car garage! It looked like the previous owners jammed all their junk into it with abandon! After two days of back-breaking work (mostly Bop's work and Bop's back) we filled a huge bin to be hauled away. Some neat finds: an antique silver razor kit, the previous owner's 1951 tax return, a good pair of red utility scissors, a sewing stool that I want to refinish, lots of old coffee cans and sturdy shelves that P has claimed. Buried with weeds and garbage in the yard was a rusty wheelbarrow that we've put to good use!

No washer and dryer? No problem!

With hot & dry weather like this, it's perfect for using our new clothesline. Thanks, Dad!
